ModCloth Weekly Wanelo Outfit Challenge

ModCloth Wanelo Outfit Challenge

This week I had the opportunity to participate in ModCloth’s weekly Wanelo Outfit Challenge. It’s a pretty cool way for them to reach out to bloggers all over the world and get their take on different pieces. This week’s featured piece is the Work to Play Dress in Navy, with the challenge to style it with up to seven other pieces from ModCloth’s site.

What a great little dress for work or the weekend. I kept the styling pretty simple with this one. Since it already has a sweet little Peter Pan collar and a belt, you don’t need a whole lot of jewelry to create a great look. To accompany it, I picked the Cambridge Satchel in mint. This structured bag is ideal for work, and it’s so lovely for in mint, matching the dress perfectly.

Like I said before, I don’t really think the dress needs a lot of accessories, but I always like a watch for a work outfit. For this outfit I picked the Olivia Burton Humming Home watch. I love the designs printed on these beauties. At least if I’m looking at my watch all day, it’s going to be pretty to look at!

For footwear I picked the Ready to Mingle Heel. I love the stacked look of the heel, it’s a nice offset to the sweetness of the dress, and the different coloured straps add visual appeal while bringing a bit of neutral colour to the bottom of the outfit.

Finally, I picked out the Boardwalk on the Wild Side sunglasses, which are really a work of art. These might be the coolest sunglasses I have ever seen. I love the idea of cateye glasses with this dress.

ModCloth probably has the most extensive selection of dresses of any website or store I can think of. I’m glad they picked the dress for this challenge. I don’t think it would have been nearly as easy to pick out just one dress!

I’m still alive!

Sorry for the lack of updates as of late. The weather has been pretty cold, and I’ve been working a lot. Here’s a quick shot of me with two of Edmonton’s most fashionable, style guru Anton, and Kimberly Wynn from CTV Morning Live.

Maison Labiche for J. Crew

Maison Labiche for J. Crew
This Maison Labiche for J. Crew tee is the latest addition to my wardrobe, and I think it’s the perfect weekend piece! What a lovely way to dress up a wardrobe staple. As with all Maison Labiche shirts, the text is embroidered with perfect little stitches.

Life advice

20121026-184553.jpg
The day before my birthday, I enjoyed lunch with two of my lovely co-workers from the AGA, my longtime friend Kim, and the talented and fashionable Janis of DressMeDearly.com.

With it being my birthday tomorrow, I feel like now’s a good time to share some funny life advice I recently saw on one of my favourite Tumblrs, ChristineFriar.com. Here’s her life advice for women in their late 20’s, “gleaned from pop culture and clicky features on shitty websites”.

  • You know how to Please Him now. Use all of your Moves. You know, the 142 blow job ones.
  • Go to a lot of brunches.
  • Keep working for that promotion at your job that you love because you are almost ten years into your career and have everything figured out and nailed down and there are no more identity-level questions in your brain.
  • Understand high heels.
  • Join a CSA with the understanding that no one knows what to do with a paper bag full of two summer squash and an edamame branch because it’ll give you something to talk about at brunch.
  • Make a vision board. Either tell everyone about it or no one.
  • Do not remark on your sensible one piece when you wear it.
  • Do yoga and supplement with trend cardio like Zumba or whatever the new Zumba is.
  • Care about pregnancy.
  • Freeze your lonely, dying eggs in case you don’t meet someone you like enough in time for you to get knocked up the traditional way.
  • Curb the anxiety that accompanies your non-pregnancy by indulging in a lot of wine alone. Wear ugly pajamas. Who cares? No one.
  • Buy a bicycle.
  • Buy a basket for your bicycle.
  • Instagram your new, tricked out bicycle.
  • Resent your bicycle.
  • Consider being a lesbian.
  • Rescue a dog that’s a fun breed.
  • Name it something atypical like Bug or Mr. Pants.
  • Stand in mirrors at department stores, turn to the side with your hands on your stomach and sigh. Say, “I need to do more yoga.”
  • Take vacations to places like “The DR.”
  • Still smoke weed, but only in a giggly way, and only if you say, “It’s been a while since I’ve done this!”
  • Own an antique.
  • In front of other people, meander off into a conversational vortex with your boyfriend about the name of that place you went with Andrew and Megan that one time. No, not Anella, you remember Anella. The other place. With the mango chutney and the lights that were just bright enough?
  • Get a Brazilian bikini wax.
  • Write about it at length.
  • Complain about all of your friends with babies and their shitty social media presence.
  • Like every photo your friends with babies put on their shitty social medias.
  • Get too drunk at a wedding and end up shoeless on a beach confessing personal things to a dude you just met who seems like a bit of a gamble, but maybe also a great guy underneath. Date him for about a month and then find out that it’s all been a hoax and he has been using your relationship as material for an article he’s writing for Bros Quarterly about “nailing simple bitches.” Feel betrayed. Dump him. Listen to this song. Accept his apology and take him back when he grovels. Have a good makeout pre-credits rolling.

Keeping it casual

This outfit is an homage to Stacey McGill of the Babysitter’s Club fame, although I like to think Stacey would have added some taxi-cab earrings to make it more ‘New York’.

Shirt by Aritzia, ballet flats by Bloch, shark tooth necklace by Rachel Roy, studded headband from ModCloth.com.
