I admit that some of the outfits I post on my blog are a little bit unconventional to wear to an average work place, but if you want to add some flare to your typical 9-5 wardrobe without breaking the dresscode, read on!
The first and most obvious way to stand out in a crowd is to pick a patten over a solid. Pattens can be tricky though, too big or too colorful and they’ll be talking about you in all the wrong ways. Pick something fun and light, and you’ll get your money’s worth. I’ve worn this silk J. Crew boy blouse in heart throb a number of times on my blog and a lot more in real life! It looks great with everything from jeans to dress pants, and under blazers and cardigans. And on those days when I do need to look conservative in grey dress pants, I still stand out from the rest. If you do go with a bold patten like this one, keep it simple with your jewelry.
Another way way to stand out at the office is by going with an unexpected colour on the bottom. In a sea of black pants and even pencil skirts, you’ll turn heads. This Club Monaco Julia skirt is great, because the colour stays completely away from the jewel tones we usually see in winter, but the shape is still really clean and classic. If you combine both colour and patten, it’s usually best to stick with a basic color scheme. Pick tones that go together and you’ll be golden. And if you don’t feel brave enough to work both, a simple black or white blouse looks good with any colour.
Blouse from J. Crew, skirt from Club Monaco, blazer is so old I can’t even remember where it came from, but similar ones can be found at H&M, bag Marc by Marc Jacobs, choker from Tiffany & Co., sunglasses by Ray Bans, shoes by Fly London.
Now work it!
